Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools superintendent Anna Stubblefield will give a community presentation on a $180 million bond proposal that is on the Nov. 5 general election ballot. The event will be held at Sumner Academy, starting at 6:00 p.m. A dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. before the presentation.
If approved, the district plans to use the large majority of the funds borrowed in the bond issue to build two new middle schools, replacing the existing Central and Argentine middle schools, and one new elementary school, combining the existing Silver City and Noble Prentis elementary schools.
An eight-classroom expansion to Sumner Academy is also planned using the bond funds, replacing temporary classrooms that have been in use.
There are offsetting property tax changes related to the bond issue, resulting in no net tax change. The district will use a 2.5 mill increase to repay the bonds and interest, but it will be offset by reductions in the library and capital outlay levies.
