The Turner school custodians had a float in the Turner Days parade, telling the story of cleaning up after the Golden Bears.
Turner Days took place on Saturday, with the parade rolling two miles up and down the hills of 55th Street from the high school to Inland Drive, just before K-32.
The event was the 40th annual celebration of the storied community, which retained its own distinct identity even as it was incorporated into Kansas City, Kan. in the 1960s. The parade’s theme was “Growing up Turner: A Bear’s Story.”
A festival at Steineger Field followed the parade.
The parade’s Chairman’s Award went to Zombie Purge at the Acres of Madness pumpkin patch.Turner Elementary earned the Spirit Award for its superhero themed float.Midland Trail Elementary won the award for Best Interpretation.The Koran Temple won the award for Best Vehicle.Oak Grove Elementary won the parade’s Best School award.Beaks N Wings Inc. won the award for Best Organization.
