According to information released late Sunday by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigations, two police officers shot and killed an armed intruder in downtown KCK just after 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
Officers shot Brian Hilt, of Kansas City, Mo. while responding to a call for assistance from KCK firefighters, who noticed property damage when they responded to a fire alarm call at the Glanville Towers building in the 700 block of Nebraska Ave. A resident also reported an armed disturbance at the building.
Hilt reportedly refused commands to drop his gun police confronted him in the apartment hallway. The officers gave medical aid after the shooting, but Hilt died of his wounds. The officers were not injured, and it was not reported that Hilt fired any shots.
The KBI is investigating the shooting, which is standard for all officer-involved shootings in Kansas. Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree will be responsible for deciding on any charges to be filed after the investigation is complete.
