General Motors has awarded the Unified Government Transportation Department a $60 thousand grant for a project to revitalize the transit hub at 7th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

The grant is part of the GM on Main Street initiative, to further its goals of “pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, inclusive urban design, and sustainable mobility.”

The transit hub project will install redesigned seating, add a mural to the retaining wall behind the hub, and add other “community-driven design elements to enhance the space for all users,” according to the public award announcement.

Deasiray Bush, director of the UG Transportation Department said, “This grant gives us the opportunity to reimagine the 7th & Minnesota Transit Hub — not just as a stop, but as a vibrant space that reflects and serves our community. We’re excited to bring art, accessibility, and essential upgrades together in a way that truly connects people and place.”

The UG was one of five recipients of this year’s awards, which goes to organizations or government entities located near GM facilities.
