Friday evening at halftime of the boys’ basketball game, the BSHS Hall of Fame welcomed its Class of 2025 — Dr. Jeff Elmer and Olliea Jarrett. The BSHS Hall of Fame recognized Bonner Springs High School alumni who have made a significant contribution in their profession or in the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville community.
Elmer was a member of the Bonner Springs High School Class of 1973, becoming a dentist and setting up his practice in Bonner Springs for over 40 years. He served on the USD 204 Board of Education, and was president of the board in 1988. He is also active in the Bonner Springs Optimist Club and other professional and service organizations.
In his remarks after being presented with a plaque, Elmer expressed hope in the future of education. ”I think we have to do everything that we can in our power to see that education continues to thrive, flourish, and have a voice,” said the grandfather of two. “Having said that, in the words of Mr. Moulin, ‘It’s a great day to be a Brave.'”

Olliea Jarrett was a 1989 graduate of Bonner Springs High School, and went on to pursue advanced education in early childhood development. She currently works as a supervisor in Public Child Care Licensing for Wyandotte County.
Jarrett served on the USD 204 Board of Education from 2007 to 2020 and was board president twice. She volunteers with several community organizations and was named the United Way Volunteer of the Year in 2016.
Jarrett, together with her mother Melva Jarrett (a 2020 BSHS Hall inductee), runs the Jerry Lee Jarrett Life Center, a Christian ministry in her late father’s honor that provides help to those in need in Bonner Springs and Edwardsville.
In her remarks, Jarrett quoted the classic Bette Midler song, “Wind Beneath My Wings,” saying of her mother, “Did I ever tell you you’re my hero? You’re everything I wish I could be.”
The Bonner Springs Braves went on to win the game over Tonganoxie, 71-46. Kelan Gruver led the home team with 21 points, including three 3-pointers and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Jaiden Jones also hit three treys and finished with 15.
