
With dangerously cold temperatures approaching Kansas City, Kan. this weekend, the Unified Government is announcing an overnight shelter run in partnership with Cross-Lines Community Outreach. The shelter will be located at the Wilhelmina Gill Multi-Service Center at 645 Nebraska Ave.
The shelter will open when the expected overnight temperature is less than 25 degrees, which will be determined by 8:00 a.m. each morning. The public can find out the shelter’s daily status by calling 913-725-0079.
Those needing shelter can start lining up outside at 5:30 p.m., and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The shelter will provide a warm meal, sleeping mat, blanket, and tent, as well as a breakfast to-go in the morning when the shelter closes at 7:00 a.m. The maximum capacity is 40 adults.
Daytime warming shelters are also available at the Frank Williams Outreach Center, Unified Government Community Centers, Kansas City, Kan. Public Library, and Avenue of Life. See the graphic below for hours of availability.
