Central Avenue Parade brings community together

Marchers represented many of the cultures and heritages that make up Wyandotte County in the annual Central Avenue Dotteversity parade.

The Central Avenue Betterment Association (CABA) held the annual Central Avenue Dotteversity parade on Saturday, highlighting the array of culture and heritage that Wyandotte County holds.

Marching bands from four of the Kansas City, Kansas school district high schools participated, along with four drill teams, both mayoral candidates, and the always-popular 7 Leguas riders and their high-stepping steeds.

The parade route started at 19th Street and Central Avenue, heading east and ending past 12th Street at Bethany Park, where the four marching bands played a round of songs in a “battle of the bands” format, then joining into one mass band, creating a wall of sound as they played and chanted together.

Local food vendors also set up in the park, with the aroma of Mexican and Central American food wafting temptingly through the crowd.
