Column: “Now Bonner has TWO QuikTrips!”

Bonner Springs Mayor Tom Stephens cut the ribbon on QuikTrip’s newest store location, its second in Bonner Springs.

I’ve been a QuikTrip fan my whole life! There was one across the street from our elementary school. We’d walk across the street to get self-serve ice cream cones, and in summer they offered orange ice cream. Without aging myself, the Royals have won two World Series and the Chiefs three Super Bowls since those days.

I like to say, “Every time a QuikTrip opens, an angel gets its wings!” Today, there’s an angel sporting a new pair of wings because the long-awaited new QuikTrip in Bonner Springs opened at 6 a.m. today! QuikTrip has strategically placed this location at the intersection K-7 and I-435, across the street from Old Dominion.

They have diesel pumps for the tractor-trailers to slip into, and it’s got a new-style kitchen, equipped with the fryers and the new “Bevolution” system, with touchscreen menus replacing the usual row of dispensers. Everything is bright, shiny, new, and state-of-the-art.

This was a BIG ribbon cutting event! Jason Acord, Director of Commercial Business Development with QuikTrip, came from corporate headquarters for the grand opening. “It’s just exciting to get another store open and create opportunities,” said Acord, who started as a 17 year old clerk in his 30-year QT career.

Bonner Springs Mayor Tom Stephens was on hand as his youngest grandson cut the ribbon. I asked the mayor what this meant for the city. “I think it’s just continuation of growth in the city; good economic growth for the city.” He went on to say that it won’t affect the QuikTrip on the other side of the highway because each store serves a different area of Bonner Springs.

The mayor’s excitement is best represented by his words at the ribbon cutting, “Now Bonner has TWO QuikTrips!”
