Hundreds crowded into the plaza in front of Memorial Hall for the mayor’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony Friday evening, presented by KCK Mayor Tyrone Garner, the Unified Government, and the Downtown Shareholders community group.

Musicians and dancers performed on the main stage on 7th Street, and families promenaded through the arena to get a moment with Santa Claus.

The U.S. Navy made a big splash at the event, with lots of officers and sailors from the USS Kansas City and USS Eisenhower in town for Kansas City’s Navy Week. KCK Mayor Tyrone Garner read a proclamation and presented it to Rear Admiral Larry Watkins, Vice Commander of US Naval Forces in Europe and Africa.
