Election Day in Wyandotte County

Voters go to the polls today to settle national, state, and local questions of great importance.

The Kansas City, Kansas school district is voting on a bond question that would enable construction and renovation of multiple school buildings. Unlike a tax increase measure that was previously rejected by voters, this bond issue takes place with no increase because it shifts money from other property tax sources.

Edwardsville votes on two half-cent tax increases that would fund construction of a new municipal building and police station but give the city the highest sales taxes in the Wyandotte County area.

State Court of Appeals judges are up for retention, and there are some hotly contested races for the Kansas House.

Wyandotte County voters are two congressional races to watch. The southern half of the county is in the third district with incumbent Democratic candidate Sharice Davids against Republican Prasanth Reddy. The northern half of the county is in the second district with Republican former state attorney general Derek Schmidt against Democratic candidate Nancy Boyda.

The top of the ballot race between Republican former president Donald Trump and Democratic vice president Kamala Harris is not expected to be a close one in Kansas, but nationwide is projected as one of U.S. history’s closest.
