The Central Avenue Betterment Association is celebrating Día de Muertos with its annual festival and parade on Saturday.
The fun starts at 11:00 a.m. with face painting. Food, ofrendas, and the car show start at noon.
Activities are centered around Bethany Park, near 11th and Central, and vendors and performance stages are spread up and down along Central Avenue. Performances run from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on ten stages.
The parade starts at 6:00 p.m., running from 6th Street up the hill, past Bethany Park and up to 16th Street, and the festival closes down at 9:00 p.m.
Along with a prize for the best parade float, there will be contests for the best Catrina (14+) and mini-Catrina (8 to 14 years). A Catrina is a character representing the Dead, featuring skeletal makeup and an elaborate traditional Mexican costume.
