Edwardsville council adds bond and tax measures to November ballot

The Edwardsville City Council voted Wednesday evening in a special meeting to place three measures on the November general election ballot related to the construction of a new city hall and police station between South 3rd Street and South 4th Street, along with a fire station expansion.

The project is expected to cost approximately $18 million dollars, and the first measure will allow the city to issue $16 million dollars in municipal bonds to finance the project.

The second and third measures are two half-cent city sales tax increases, which, if passed, would increase the city’s sales tax rate by 67%, from 1.5% to 2.5% percent, for a total sales tax rate of 10%, higher than Bonner Springs (9.25%) and Kansas City (9.13%).
